If you know stuff that isn't mentioned here but might be of interest for fellow fans, don't hesitate to send it to me!
... that Todd's bass guitar was made especially for him by Robin guitars, and there are only five other ones like his one in the whole
world
... that Todd was born in Houston (though he and Toby grew up in Huntsville)
... that Todd's middle name is David, and Toby's is Douglas ("... but I don't like that name") - so they've still both got the same initials
... that Todd and Clay are both left-handed, whereas Toby and John are righthanded... The reason why Todd still plays a
"right-handed" guitar is that they always saw it like that on TV.
... that the idea for the band name Deep Blue Something was not originally by John but it was a friend of theirs named Paul D'Angelo
who said, "hey, that sounds cool!"
... that the creator of the cover art of "Home", Gil Pena, was a college roommate of one of the guys
... that the video of their single "She Is" was recorded at the Curtain Club in Dallas?
... that the boys' hobbies are camping, music, soccer and collecting vintage Corvette automobiles
... that some years ago the school soccer team Toby coached won the city championship
... Todd's favorite joke: Mr. Smith is angry: "This modern partner selection by computer - it's just heartless, impersonal and nasty!"
His son then asks: "And how did you get to know Mom?" - "I won her at a poker game."
... that before DBS John worked as a gravedigger and Toby and Todd did concert security
... that the smallest amount of audience they ever had were 2 people - the club owners...
... that Todd and Toby actually started off when they were quite young: armed with a tennis racket and an empty washing
powder box, in front of the mirror.
... why they like their band name so much? Just because it makes no sense at all!
Amount: four big ones and eight small ones, as far as I know
Estimated number of unknown: maybe three or four or so...
Basically, the most common gossip in German mags is the fact that Todd was fired after being an English teacher at a
private school for three months.
- and what have they done with all that money they made with "Breakfast"?
John said, "We've all bought big houses, and use to lie next to the pool with cowboy hats on, and shoot tourists!"
- once when asked how they got their band name, they said, "we can tell you but afterwards we'll have to kill you
because it's a big secret!"
- now listen to this: "With their boyish charm the Pipes brothers easily got it to win the audience over..."
- Todd says he seldomly wrote songs that have to do with himself because this made him vulnerable. (Quite contrary to
his brother, isn't it?)
- one magazine was silly enough to write the movie "Breakfast At Tiffany's" was with Marilyn Monroe! Ouch!
Probably you've already read about it on Audrey's Page.
Fact is that on the cover of the August 1996 Playgirl issue Todd is displayed with an open shirt (trousers, of course!) but no
undershirt...
Inside there is a one-page-long article about Todd and a truly marvelous six-page-interview; actually with three pages of
questioning and some nice photos - but not of the kind you're figuring now!
